Trump sparks trade war fears as Asian countries hit hard by US tariffs

US futures tumble as US president Donald Trump unveils sweeping tariffs on countries across Asia, with India, China, Taiwan and South Korea all hit hard; many fear the move could spark a global trade war.

Dow futures tumbled 950 points in the US as US president Donald Trump unveiled a sweeping range of tariffs on US imports exports to the US in the Rose Garden in the White House on Wednesday, April 2. 

Trump said that the so-called reciprocal tariffs will hit every country around the world. For example, China has been hit with 34% tariffs,which the White House confirmed are on top of the 20% already imposed by the US Taiwan has been hit with 32% tariffs India has been hit with 26% tariffs South Korea was hit with 25% tariffs Japan and Malaysia have been hit with 24% tariffs.
