Tata and Quippo combine telecom tower businesses

The combined entity will create India's largest independent telecom infrastructure company with 18,000 towers, an enterprise value of $2.6 billion and aggressive expansion plans.

Tata Teleservices and Quippo Telecom Infrastructure yesterday announced plans to merge their respective telecom tower networks to create IndiaÆs largest independent telecom infrastructure company. The new business will have a pan-India presence with more than 18,000 towers on day one, and with plans to increase its portfolio to some 50,000 towers by 2012.

Tata Teleservices, which provides wireless services to almost 32 million subscribers under the Tata Indicom brand, is the first Indian telecom operator to turn its previously captive tower business Wireless-TT Info-Services Ltd or WTTIL into a truly independent one.
