Private banks see opportunity onshore in Asia

Wealthy Asians are expected to retain and manage more money locally over time, and a growing number of global and local firms are eyeing the opportunities.

The environment is becoming ever more conducive for onshore private banking in Asia, in light of greater regional stability and growing constraints on offshore wealth management, say industry experts  and more global and local players are looking to take advantage.

“Onshore banking is definitely one of the most significant opportunities for private banks,” said Stephane Honig, head of sales for wealth management and family offices and head of strategic equity solutions group for global markets for Asia Pacific at BNP Paribas.
