J.P. Morgan appoints India chief economist

The US bank hires a senior bureaucrat previously with India's ministry of finance as chief economist for India.
J.P. Morgan has appointed former government official, Jahangir Aziz, as chief economist for its India business.

Aziz will be responsible for developing the firm's strategic positions on macroeconomic and public policy, including research that focuses on India's regional and global economic links. He was previously the principal economic adviser in the Indian ministry of finance and was involved in the policymaking process, especially in the areas of monetary policy and financial sector reforms. Before he joined the MoF, Aziz spent 14 years with the International Monetary Fund IMF, mostly in the Asia-Pacific department.
