IMF delays loan review for Bangladesh amid failure to meet conditions

An April review by the IMF ended without an agreement, with June the next opportunity to meet the IMF's conditions and release two tranches of loans.

There is more bad news for Bangladesh’s economy. A mission from the International Monetary Fund IMF, visited Dhaka during April 617, ended its journey without reaching a staff-level’ agreement with the Bangladeshi authority, for its $4.7 billion loan programme.

A staff-level agreement is necessary to place the procedure of loan instalment approval before the management of IMF. Bangladesh was expecting up to $1.3 billion in two tranches in budget support credit which could help to replenish the country’s paltry foreign currency reserves.
