HSBC said on Thursday Noel Quinn will become chief executive of commercial banking globally.
Noel joined HSBC in 1987, and has led commercial banking in the Asia-Pacific region between 2011 and 2015. Before that he headed commercial banking in the UK between 2008 and 2011.
Quinn succeeds Simon Cooper who has resigned to join rival Standard Chartered.
StanChart said on Thursday Cooper, 48, was joining as CEO of corporate and institutional banking in April. He joined HSBC in 1989.
Quinn has already been replaced by Paul Skelton as regional head of commercial banking.
