HSBC gets Julius

One of Asia''s great investment banking characters is to join HSBC as global head.

The manager of the Captain's Bar in Hong Kong will be delighted. One of the greatest patrons of his lunchtime sushi buffet is about to be spending a lot more time in Asia.

That's because former Jardine Fleming equities boss, Russell Julius is about to join HSBC as its global head of ECM. And given that most of HSBC's ECM mandates look likely to come from Greater China, he reckons he will be spending a lot more time in Hong Kong.

His decision to revitalise HSBC's none-too-vibrant equity capital markets effort suggests that he has put on hold his lifelong ambition to settle down and become the bursar of an Oxford college...
