China Aluminium to go public in six months

China Aluminium director expects the company''s IPO before the end of the first quarter 2001.

China Aluminium Company Chalco will strive to complete its reorganisation and go public in six months, that is, in the first quarter of 2001, according to Guo Shengkun, director of the preparatory group for China Aluminium Company.

Chalco operates well at present, but is in a disadvantageous position against the global economic background. The world's alumina output exceeded 50 million tons in 1999.

Chalco ranked second in the world in alumina output in the year, only after the American Aluminium Company. But Chalco lacks modern equipment and its production costs are high.
