Barclays promotes Jian Chang to chief China economist

The appointment follows Yiping Huang's decision to return to academic life at Peking University.

Barclays has named Jian Chang as its new chief China economist, succeeding Yiping Huang who is returning to Peking University as an economics professor.

Chang joined Barclays in 2009 and has helped to build the bank’s economics product in the China market. “We expect Chang to continue to deliver a wealth of expertise and analysis in leading our China macro research offering,” said an email sent to staff yesterday from Jon Scoffin, head of Asia-Pacific research, and Christian Keller, head of emerging markets research.
